I am trying to draw a map for myself

Happy Spring, again!

The dogwood in our front yard has started to bloom.

And happy Covid spring, or at least we can see that spring is going to come. My beloved and I will get our second vaccinations in less than two weeks.

Happy Spring, Dogwood Blossoms!

I am always trying to draw maps of the healing journey. I feel more secure if I have some way to assess where I am, where I’ve been and where I am trying to get to.

So last week I drew a map, or map-ish. You can access the entire PDF by entering your email at the top of the page and adding yourself to my mailing list.

Gathering Evidence for Failure

Today’s topic is collecting evidence of failure vs collecting evidence of success.

As I look around my home and my life, I constantly see evidence of my failure. There are many relationships and areas of my life that are not the way I would like them to be. And since one of my challenges is clutter, there is literally physical evidence littered all over the place reminding me of my lack of mastery.

So – yes, the evidence is there for my failures. It’s absolutely true. I see it around me, and there is no denying it.

I’m thinking of those situations where there is something terrible happening and we just gawk at it, the car accident or a tragedy on the tv. When we just gape and stare at the tragedy, nothing happens, we are just lost in frightful musing. In that vein, I have this unconscious habit of gaping at my failure, which makes it seem bigger than it is.

But when I consciously redirect my attention and look around for evidence of my success, even looking at the same objects, there is actually abundant evidence of my success. There is lots of evidence for both, but the evidence for failure is what I notice.

Repairing Relationships!! (New Video!)

It’s Spring!

Here in the northern hemisphere, today is the first day of spring!
I finally took the plunge and started recording video, with the idea that good enough is good enough, and I can get more professional and proficient over time.
Here is a video on “Rupture and Repair” and how that process is different for people with developmental trauma than for people who had a solid landing in life.

Developmental Trauma and Spiritual Growth

Well-deserved time off at the beach with my Sweetie!

I want to share something I wrote today in one of my Facebook groups about Developmental Trauma vs Shock Trauma.

This was in response to the following comment that showed up in a conversation in the group: “If you experienced developmental trauma, it is not possible to heal, your trauma is written in stone, but if you experienced a shock trauma, you are likely to make a full recovery.”

I don’t agree with this assertion, but there are elements of truth woven into it. Let’s slow down and unpack this topic.

The absence of developmental trauma: a good enough infancy and childhood:

If a child has a good enough experience in the womb and as an infant and young person, if the unpleasant experiences that they have are manageable and they are able to have safety, love, recognition and support in the face of pain or upset, then that person will tend to have a nervous system and an inner emotional life that is fairly well balanced.

My new free program is still open to additional enrollees!

It’s Thursday noon in Baltimore. It was snowing overnight and sleeting about an hour ago. It’s quiet now, but we are expecting another 2-4 inches of snow overnight. Not much compared to New England and the Midwest, and overall much easier than Texas.

I hope that wherever you are, you are warm, safe, and fed.

Is it you?? I’m looking for some volunteers!

I hope that you are doing well, reaching deep into the soil of the earth for nutrients through the challenge of winter, feeling the call of spring that will be coming.

I am excited about what is going to pop out of the soil this spring and then sprout leaves, and blossom, and bear fruit.
I myself have been percolating deep in the darkness, poking around in basements and caves in my unconscious, looking for insight and hidden treasure.

I’ve found a few precious things down there. If you click on this link you will find a 17 question “journey inventory” that brought some rich insights and perspective for me when I filled it out for myself a few weeks ago.

The Tattered Blanket of Shame and Failure

Thursday morning I woke up feeling a bit like an emotional demolition derby – all of the different emotions and thoughts were the cars and they were all ramming into each other.
Like this. But lots more Emotion-Cars and Thought-Cars,
and lots of crashes.

Working With Fear

Together with the nation, I am breathing a sigh of relief to signs of normalcy and stabilization in government. I won’t say more.

On a more personal note, I am breathing excitement, as I have enrolled in an intensive support program that will help me in lifting my transformational somatic trauma healing business to a new level.

That is good for you because I continue to have a passion for producing free and low-cost resources to help guide people through healing developmental trauma who do not have the financial resources to pay for a dedicated facilitator. This support will help me to get those resources collected and organized and available to you and to the people in your life.

More to come on that front as I inch or leap forward, week by week.

In the meantime, here is one of the resources that I created within the past week. This is an audio process for working with fear, for finding embodiment in the face of fear, and for connecting to the earth for grounding and support.

Stop Caring and Just Love.

Wow, what a week it has been!

I hope that you are well, in body, mind, and spirit. 😘

Here is my story: On Wednesday I sat down to record a new version of a healing practice that I wanted to share with you. I was all set, I had updated the script and reviewed it carefully. I would record the new version, listen to it to make sure it worked, and then write up my weekly email and send you the link.😥     That didn’t happen.    😬The state of our nervous system in any moment has a huge impact on anything we do. For me to record an effective healing meditation, my nervous system needs to be in a state of calm, aliveness, generosity, and peace. I read the headlines about what was happening in Washington DC, and what happened in my nervous system was definitely not peace. At first I thought I could settle enough to do the recording, and finally I realized that was not realistic.
Notice your body, trust your body, don’t try to force it.

Happy New Year! AND: Visiting Emotions Process with recording

Dear Awesome Human,

I hope that your holidays thus far have delivered more blessing than pain. Now let’s all get the heck out of 2020! I hear there’s a new place opening up down the street called “2021.” I – for one – am going to go down there and check it out.

Thanks so much to those of you who came to my webinar this month, to those who signed up but didn’t manage to come, and to those who thought about it but couldn’t make it work this time. I had a great time, and we had some good insights and learning.

I have two exciting pieces of personal news to share!
