Are You Backsliding?

In my experience, when old feelings, habits or reactions come back in people who are persistently doing their personal work, it’s seldom backsliding.

It’s usually one or both of these things:

1. Because of progress, the old thing is surfacing again in hopes of being felt, seen, held and healed.

2. Because of stress and demands, the inner structures that normally hold things at bay are not fully functioning.

Neither of these qualifies as backsliding, both are consistent with continued forward growth.
